The Lament under the Net of Arrows
परित्यक्षाम्यहंप्राणान्वानराणांतुपश्याताम् ।यदिपञ्चत्वमापन्नस्सुमित्रानन्दवर्धनः ।।6.49.7।।
parityakṣāmy ahaṃ prāṇān vānarāṇāṃ tu paśyatām | yadi pañcatvam āpannaḥ sumitrānandavardhanaḥ ||6.49.7||
หากพระลักษมณ์ ผู้เป็นความปีติของนางสุมิตรา ได้ถึงสภาพแห่งธาตุทั้งห้าแล้วไซร้ เราจักสละชีวิตนี้ แม้ต่อหน้าหมู่วานรทั้งหลาย
Thereafter, Vibheeshana, settling all the army, hastened to reach Raghava with a mace.
Dharma is portrayed as radical solidarity: Rāma sees his own life as ethically bound to Lakṣmaṇa’s, reflecting a vow-like commitment to those who uphold his righteous cause.
Rāma, fearing Lakṣmaṇa is dead, declares he will not continue living, speaking in front of the Vanara host.
Integrity in relationships and accountability: Rāma refuses to treat others’ sacrifice as expendable for achieving ends.
