अङ्गदस्य प्रायोपवेशननिश्चयः
Angada’s Resolve to Fast unto Death
तस्मिन्पापे कृतघ्ने तु स्मृतिहीने चलात्मनि।आर्यः को विश्वसेज्जातु तत्कुलीनो जिजीविषुः।।।।
tasmin pāpe kṛtaghne tu smṛtihīne calātmani |
āryaḥ ko viśvasej jātu tatkulīno jijīviṣuḥ ||
ในคนบาปผู้นั้น ผู้เนรคุณ ลืมคุณ และใจแปรปรวน ใครเล่าในหมู่อารยะจะไว้วางใจได้; และผู้ใดเกิดในตระกูลของเขา จะยังปรารถนาจะมีชีวิตต่อไปได้อย่างไร
'He is a sinner and an ungrateful person as he does not remember others' help. He is fickle-minded. Which respectable person will believe him? Which member of his family will wish to live?
Gratitude and reliability are treated as dharmic foundations of social order; ingratitude (kṛtaghnatā) destroys trust and makes righteous cooperation impossible.
Angada, fearing punishment upon return without success, argues that Sugrīva is untrustworthy and will not protect them, intensifying the group’s despair.
Kṛtajñatā (gratitude) and steadiness of mind as essential virtues for a king or ally.
