Omens before Khara’s Assault
प्रभिन्नगिरिसङ्काशास्तोयशोणितधारिणः।आकाशं तदनाकाशं चक्रुर्भीमा वलाहकाः।।।।
prabhinna-giri-saṅkāśās toya-śoṇita-dhāriṇaḥ | ākāśaṃ tad anākāśaṃ cakrur bhīmā valāhakāḥ ||
เมฆอันน่าสะพรึงกลัว ดุจภูเขาแตกพัง หลั่งสายน้ำประหนึ่งโลหิต ทำให้ท้องฟ้าดูประหนึ่งมิใช่ฟ้า—พิกลและน่าหวาดหวั่น
The dreadful jackals making ghastly howls turning towards the illuminated direction and produced frightening sounds indicating inauspicious time for the demons.
When adharma rises, the world appears disordered. The verse uses cosmic imagery to show that unrighteous violence disturbs harmony.
Portents intensify: the sky turns uncanny as clouds pour blood-like rain, foreshadowing battle and death.
Steadfastness under fear—holding to dharma even when the world seems ominously overturned.
