Durvasa’s Curse, the Churning of the Ocean, and Lakshmi’s Manifestation
Chapter 4
taṃ prāha devo bhūyopi lakṣmyāstatpuramarpaya | sarvathā tu tvayā tyājyaṃ vacanānme mahāmune
Deva (the Lord/deity) addressing a great sage (mahāmune)
Primary Rasa: vira
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Type: celestial_realm
Sandhi Resolution Notes:
The deity commands that a particular city be dedicated to Lakṣmī and insists that the sage must not set aside or violate that divine instruction.
It emphasizes fidelity to rightful authority and the seriousness of a sacred directive—treating a divine command as binding and not optional.
Indirectly: dedicating something to Lakṣmī implies devotional offering (arpana), while the stress on obedience supports the devotional ethic of aligning one’s will with the divine.
