Concept: Merit-bearing giving is valid when offered according to one’s capacity; dharma is not annulled by limited means.

Application: Give regularly but sustainably—donate time, food, or money within your means; avoid debt-driven ‘piety’ and avoid shaming others’ smaller offerings.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: karuna

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A teacher gently instructs a group of women, indicating two symbolic offerings labeled ‘sāvārā’ and ‘naṣṭapañcāśat’ placed on a clean cloth. The women present modest gifts—grain, cloth, coins—each according to her means, while the teacher’s gesture emphasizes ‘yathāśakti’ compassion rather than rigid demand.","primary_figures":["teacher/priest","women practitioners (bhavatīnām)","attendant holding offering tray"],"setting":"veranda of a village temple or home courtyard with offering trays, measures of grain, cloth bundles, and a small lamp","lighting_mood":"soft afternoon glow","color_palette":["ochre","cotton white","brick red","forest green","bronze"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: compassionate guru addressing women devotees, offering trays with labeled ritual gifts ‘sāvārā’ and ‘naṣṭapañcāśat’, modest grain and coins, gold leaf accents on lamp and ornaments, rich reds/greens, symmetrical composition with ornate pillars.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: gentle instructional scene with refined faces, women in colorful shawls presenting small offerings, delicate depiction of grain measures and cloth bundles; airy courtyard, soft shadows, lyrical calm.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines, flat yet vibrant pigments, teacher’s hand gesture central, offering items stylized as iconic shapes; warm yellow background with red/green garments and ritual lamp motif.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: decorative border of floral vines and offering vessels, central group of women offering grains and cloth, Vaishnava symbols subtly integrated; deep blue and gold detailing with intricate patterns."}

FAQs

It teaches that offerings or ritual gifts should be made in proportion to one’s means (yathāśakti), emphasizing practical, non-oppressive religious duty.

The line indicates that the instruction is being highlighted for a female audience or addressed respectfully to women in the dialogue, stressing their eligibility and guidance in the prescribed observance.

They appear as technical names for specific prescribed offerings/fees within the ritual context of the chapter. Without the immediately surrounding verses or a traditional commentary, they are best treated as fixed ritual terms rather than translated literally.
