Vāmadeva

Concept: For certain dreadful actions, peace is not gained through ritual expiation alone; karmic fruits must be undergone—bhoga as unavoidable maturation of karma.

Application: Do not seek shortcuts for consequences of grave wrongdoing; cultivate accountability, restitution where possible, and steady devotion to endure prārabdha with clarity.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: karuna

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Sage Vāmadeva, composed and radiant, raises a hand in gentle admonition while addressing a crowned king who bows with troubled eyes. Behind them, a faint mural-like vision shows a shadowy karmic deed dissolving into a river of time—signaling that only lived consequence can complete the cycle.","primary_figures":["Vāmadeva","nṛpottama (best of kings)"],"setting":"Royal forest-camp or hermitage audience space: a simple throne set aside, kusa seats, and a quiet fire; attendants kept distant to preserve the intimacy of counsel.","lighting_mood":"divine radiance","color_palette":["smoky violet","sandalwood tan","golden amber","deep maroon","sage green"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Vāmadeva with gold-leaf halo and raised blessing/admonition hand, king kneeling with crown lowered, ornate yet restrained jewelry, gold accents on fire and halo, rich reds/greens, a subtle karma-vision vignette in the background framed like a temple panel.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: refined rishi-king dialogue under a tree canopy, cool purples and greens, delicate facial expressions—sage serene, king remorseful; a translucent time-river motif painted in pale wash behind them.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines, Vāmadeva’s large calm eyes, king in añjali; warm pigments, stylized flames and foliage, circular mandala behind the sage suggesting cosmic law, temple-wall composition.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: central counsel scene framed by lotus borders; symbolic chakra/time-river motifs woven into the background pattern, deep blue and gold highlights, symmetrical attendants at edges minimized to keep focus on guru and king."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"meditative","suggested_raga":"Yaman","pace":"slow-meditative","voice_tone":"serene","sound_elements":["tanpura drone","soft crackle of fire","silence between phrases","distant conch"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: karmaṇaścāsyaghorasya = karmaṇaḥ + ca + asya + aghorasya; śāṃtirbhavenmama = śāntiḥ + bhavet + mama; caivāsti = ca + eva + asti; ṛtebhogāt = ṛte + bhogāt.

FAQs

It states that for this “dreadful” act, no conventional expiation is available; the only remedy is to undergo the karmic result (bhoga) of the deed.

Bhoga here indicates the lived experience of karmic fruits—enduring the consequences produced by one’s actions, whether as suffering or other outcomes.

The verse underscores moral accountability: some actions are so grave that ritual remedies are insufficient, and responsibility must be faced through the inevitable maturation of karma.
