तद् भीष्मवाक्यं हितमीक्ष्य सर्वे धनंजयाग्निं च विवर्धमानम् | निवर्तनायैव मनो निदध्यु- दुर्योधनं ते परिरक्षमाणा:
tad bhīṣmavākyaṃ hitam īkṣya sarve dhanañjayāgniṃ ca vivardhamānam | nivartanāyaiva mano nidadhyur duryodhanaṃ te parirakṣamāṇāḥ ||
ไวศัมปายนะกล่าวว่า เมื่อเห็นถ้อยคำของภีษมะเป็นคำเตือนอันเป็นประโยชน์ และตระหนักว่าหากฝืนเร่งศึกต่อไป ไฟแห่งธนัญชัย (อรชุน) จะยิ่งลุกโชนรุนแรงขึ้นไม่หยุด พวกเขาจึงตั้งใจไว้เพียงการถอนทัพ ครั้นคุ้มกันทุรโยธนะแล้ว ก็ลงมติหันกลับและคืนสู่แผ่นดินของตน เลือกความรอบคอบเหนือสงครามที่จะยิ่งปลุกเร้าความพินาศ
