भीष्म उवाच
Bhīṣma asserts a hierarchy of learning and authority: Droṇa is presented as exceptionally accomplished in Vedānta and traditional lore, with only Paraśurāma—renowned as a supreme teacher-warrior and bearer of ancient knowledge—being a conceivable superior. The verse underscores reverence for śāstra-based learning and the legitimacy conferred by lineage and mastery.
In the Virāṭa Parva context, Bhīṣma is speaking to a king and is evaluating or praising Droṇa’s stature. He frames Droṇa’s eminence in terms of scriptural and traditional knowledge, then adds a single exception—Paraśurāma—thereby emphasizing Droṇa’s near-unmatched authority.
