As a colophon, the line itself teaches indirectly: it frames the episode as a moral unit—an act of cattle-raiding driven by ambition and pride, voiced through Duryodhana, which invites reflection on adharma (unjust aggression) and the inevitable ethical and practical consequences that follow such choices.
This is the chapter-ending colophon: it announces that the forty-seventh chapter of the Virāṭa Parva has concluded, within the cattle-raid episode, highlighting the theme of the seizure of Uttara’s cattle and identifying Duryodhana’s speech as the focal discourse of this chapter.
