त्रिगर्त-मात्स्य-संग्रामः

विशारदानां मुख्यानां हृष्टानां चारुजीविनाम्‌ । अष्टौ रथसहस्राणि दश नागशतानि च

vaiśampāyana uvāca | viśāradānāṁ mukhyānāṁ hṛṣṭānāṁ cārujīvinām | aṣṭau rathasahasrāṇi daśa nāgaśatāni ca |

ไวศัมปายนะกล่าวว่า— ในหมู่นักรบชั้นนำแห่งแคว้นมัตสยะ ผู้ชำนาญศิลปะแห่งสงคราม เปี่ยมปีติ และดำรงชีพด้วยความรุ่งเรืองอันสมเกียรติ มีรถศึกแปดพันคัน และช้างหนึ่งพันเชือก. โอ้ผู้ประเสริฐแห่งวงศ์ภารตะ! ด้วยเหล่านี้เอง กองทัพมหึมาของพระวิราฏะซึ่งพร้อมสรรพและออกสู่ศึก จึงแลสุกสว่างยิ่งนัก.
