उवाच च महाबाहु: पाज्चालीं तत्र द्रौपदीम् । अश्रुपूर्णमुखी दीनां दुर्धर्ष: स वृकोदर:,उस समय पांचालराजकुमारी द्रौपदी बड़ी दीन एवं दयनीय हो गयी थी। उसके मुखपर आँसुओंकी धारा बह रही थी। दुर्धर्ष वीर महाबाहु वृकोदरने उसे धीरज बँधाते हुए कहा --
vaiśampāyana uvāca | uvāca ca mahābāhuḥ pāñcālīṃ tatra draupadīm | aśrupūrṇamukhīṃ dīnāṃ durdharṣaḥ sa vṛkodaraḥ ||
ณ ที่นั้น เทราปที ธิดาแห่งปัญจาละยืนอยู่ด้วยความทุกข์ระทม ใบหน้าเปียกชุ่มด้วยน้ำตา ครั้นแล้ววฤโกทรผู้มีพาหุอันยิ่งใหญ่ ผู้ยากจะต้านทาน ได้กล่าวปลอบประโลมนางว่า—
