Educational Q&A

Even the most righteous and self-controlled person may experience intense grief; dharma is shown not by the absence of sorrow but by continuing one’s course without abandoning duty. The scene also uses nature (the lotus-filled lake) to frame human suffering within a larger moral and cosmic order.

Mārkaṇḍeya narrates to Yudhiṣṭhira that after Sītā is abducted, Rāma—overwhelmed by grief—goes to Lake Pampā nearby, described as abundant with lotuses and blue water-lilies.
