पापानां विद्धयधिष्ठानं लोभमेव द्विजोत्तम । लुब्धा: पापं व्यवस्यन्ति नरा नातिबहुश्रुता:,विप्रवर! लोभको ही पापोंका घर समझो। जिन्होंने अधिकतर शास्त्रोंका श्रवण नहीं किया है, वे लोभी मनुष्य ही पाप करनेका विचार रखते हैं

pāpānāṁ viddhy adhiṣṭhānaṁ lobham eva dvijottama | lubdhāḥ pāpaṁ vyavasyanti narā nātibahuśrutāḥ ||

จงรู้เถิด โอผู้ประเสริฐในหมู่ทวิชะ ว่าความโลภนี่เองคือที่ตั้งและรากฐานแห่งบาปทั้งปวง มนุษย์ผู้โลภ—โดยเฉพาะผู้มิได้อบรมด้วยการสดับคำสอนศักดิ์สิทธิ์มากนัก—ย่อมตั้งใจและตัดสินใจกระทำบาป
