Educational Q&A

The verse underscores impermanence under the power of Time: even the entire cosmos—movable and immovable—can be dissolved. In such a setting, dharma is presented as the enduring compass for a person, rather than reliance on worldly stability.

Mārkaṇḍeya begins a description of a cosmic dissolution (pralaya): the world becomes a single ocean and all beings perish. He addresses Yudhiṣṭhira (“best of the Bharatas”) as he sets the scene for what follows in the episode.
