Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes satya—truthful speech aligned with cosmic reality—as a source of efficacy and protection. By naming the Ocean’s sacred origins (fire, sun, divine waters) and linking it to Viṣṇu’s generative power and the ‘navel’ of immortality, the text presents right speech as a dharmic act that enables right action.

Lomaśa instructs a Pāṇḍava to recite a ‘truth-statement’ (satyavākya) addressed to the Ocean and then quickly ascend a ritual altar (vedī). The instruction suggests a rite or sacred procedure where a consecrated utterance and a physical act together facilitate a critical passage or undertaking.
