एतदिच्छाम्यहं श्रोतुं विस्तरेण तपोधन । कथ्यमानं त्वया विप्र राज्ञां चरितमुत्तमम्,तपोधन! विप्रवर! मैं यह प्रसंग, जिसमें राजाओंके उत्तम चरित्रका वर्णन है, आपके मुखसे विस्तारपूर्वक सुनना चाहता हूँ
etad icchāmy ahaṃ śrotuṃ vistareṇa tapodhana | kathyamānaṃ tvayā vipra rājñāṃ caritam uttamam ||
ยุธิษฐิระกล่าวว่า “ข้าแต่ผู้มั่งคั่งด้วยตบะ ข้าปรารถนาจะฟังเรื่องนี้โดยพิสดาร โอ้พราหมณ์ เมื่อท่านเล่า ขอจงกล่าวถึงวีรกรรมอันประเสริฐและความประพฤติอันสูงส่งของเหล่ากษัตริย์ด้วย”
