कण्वोपदेशः—नश्वरबलविवेकः तथा मातलिगुणकेश्याः आख्यानारम्भः

अल्पीयांसं विशिष्ट वा तत् ते राजन् समाहितम् | “राजन! आजसे फिर कभी घमंडमें आकर अपनेसे बड़े या छोटे किन्हीं राजाओंपर किसी प्रकार भी आक्षेप न करना। इस बातके लिये मैंने तुम्हें सावधान कर दिया ।।
alpīyāṁsaṁ viśiṣṭa vā tat te rājan samāhitam | kṛtaprajño vītalobho nirahaṅkāra ātmavān ||
พระรามตรัสว่า “ข้าแต่พระราชา จงจดจำไว้ให้มั่น: ตั้งแต่วันนี้อย่าได้เพราะความทะนงแล้วกล่าวโทษหรือเหน็บแนมกษัตริย์องค์ใด ไม่ว่าจะต่ำกว่าหรือสูงกว่าท่าน ข้าเตือนเพื่อประโยชน์ของท่านเอง จงเป็นผู้มีปัญญามั่นคง ปราศจากความโลภ ไร้อัตตา และรู้จักข่มใจ ปกครองไพร่ฟ้าด้วยความนอบน้อมและสำรวม และอย่าตำหนิผู้ใดก่อนรู้ชัดถึงกำลังและความอ่อนของเขา”
