Educational Q&A

Sahadeva affirms that the king’s position is grounded in sanātana-dharma, yet he argues for decisive action leading to war—implying that when dharma is threatened and reconciliation fails, a kṣatriya may need to ensure a just conflict rather than allow prolonged injustice or indecision.

In the Udyoga Parva’s pre-war deliberations, Sahadeva speaks after the king’s statement on dharma. He addresses a leading hero (ariṁdama, contextually Kṛṣṇa) and urges a strategy that results in battle, signaling support among the warriors for a firm, war-ready course.
