अध्याय ८ — शल्यस्य सत्कारः, वरदानं, पाण्डवसमागमश्च (Śalya’s Reception, the Boon, and Meeting the Pāṇḍavas)

प्रसादमेषां दास्यामि कुन्तीपुत्रो$नुमन्यताम्‌ । दुर्योधनाय तत्‌ सर्व कथयन्ति सम विस्मिता:,“मैं इन सबको अपनी प्रसन्नताके फलस्वरूप कुछ पुरस्कार दूँगा, कुन्तीनन्दन युधिष्ठिरको भी मेरे इस व्यवहारका अनुमोदन करना चाहिये।” यह सुनकर सब सेवकोंने विस्मित हो दुर्योधनसे वे सारी बातें बतायीं

prasādam eṣāṁ dāsyāmi kuntīputro 'numanyatām | duryodhanāya tat sarvaṁ kathayanti sma vismitāḥ ||

“เราจะประทานรางวัลแก่คนเหล่านี้เป็นเครื่องหมายแห่งความโปรดปรานของเรา; และกุนตีบุตร คือยุธิษฐิระ ก็ควรเห็นชอบต่อการกระทำของเรา” ครั้นได้ฟังดังนั้น เหล่ามหาดเล็กต่างพิศวง แล้วไปกราบทูลเรื่องทั้งหมดแก่ทุรโยธนะ
