Dhṛtarāṣṭra–Saṃjaya Dialogue: Command to Proceed to Upaplavya
त्यजन्ति मित्रेषु धनानि काले न संवासाज्जीर्यति तेषु मैत्री । यथार्हमानार्थकरा हि पार्था- स्तेषां द्वेष्ठा नास्त्याजमीढस्य पक्षे,वे समय पड़नेपर मित्रोंको उनकी सहायताके लिये धन देते हैं। दीर्घकालिक प्रवाससे भी उनकी मैत्री क्षीण नहीं होती है। कुन्तीके पुत्र सबका यथायोग्य सत्कार करनेवाले हैं। अजमीढवंशी हम कौरवोंके पक्षमें पापी, बेईमान तथा मन्दबुद्धि दुर्योधन एवं अत्यन्त क्षुद्र स्वभाववाले कर्णको छोड़कर दूसरा कोई भी उनसे द्वेष रखनेवाला नहीं है। संजय! मेरा पुत्र दुर्योधन कालके अधीन हो गया है; क्योंकि उसकी बुद्धि रागसे दूषित है। वह मूर्ख अत्यन्त तेजस्वी महात्मा पाण्डवोंके स्वत्वको दबा लेनेकी चेष्टा कर रहा है। केवल दुर्योधन और कर्ण ही सुख और प्रियजनोंसे बिछुड़े हुए महामना पाण्डवोंके मनमें क्रोध उत्पन्न करते रहते हैं युधिछिर उवाच गावल्गणे संजय स्वागतं ते प्रीयामहे ते वयं दर्शनेन । अनामयं प्रतिजाने तवाहं सहानुजै: कुशली चास्मि विद्वन् युधिष्ठिर बोले--गवल्गणकुमार संजय! तुम्हारा स्वागत है। तुम्हें देखकर हमें बड़ी प्रसन्नता हुई है। विद्वन! मैं अपने भाइयोंसहित कुशलसे हूँ तथा तुम्हें अपने आरोग्यकी सूचना दे रहा हूँ
tyajanti mitreṣu dhanāni kāle na saṃvāsāj jīryati teṣu maitrī | yathārham anārthakarā hi pārthās teṣāṃ dveṣṭā nāsty ājamīḍhasya pakṣe ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: “In times of need they give wealth to their friends; and even long separation does not wear down their friendship. The sons of Pṛthā (the Pāṇḍavas) honor people as is fitting and do not act to anyone’s harm. In the line of Ajāmīḍha, on the Kaurava side, there is virtually no one who bears hatred toward them.”
