Educational Q&A

The verse underscores dharma as the restoration of rightful social and moral order: extraordinary measures may be taken under specific conditions, but once the purpose is fulfilled and the situation normalizes, one returns to one’s proper station, preserving vows, propriety, and societal stability.

Bhīṣma reports a conditional promise: after King Hemavarman returns to the land of Daśārṇa, the speaker will revert to being a maiden, and the addressed person will regain male form—indicating a temporary, situation-bound change in identity linked to a royal journey and its completion.
