Bhishma and Rama: Restraint and Withdrawal in the Engagement

तदनन्तर उन महर्षियोंके देखते-देखते उस साध्वी एवं सुन्दरी कन्याने उस वनसे बहुत- सी लकड़ियोंका संग्रह किया और एक विशाल चिता बनाकर उसमें आग लगा दी। महाराज! जब आग प्रज्वलित हो गयी, तब वह क्रोधसे जलते हुए हृदयसे भीष्मके वधका संकल्प बोलकर उस आगममें प्रवेश कर गयी। राजन! इस प्रकार काशिराजकी वह ज्येष्ठ पुत्री अम्बा दूसरे जन्ममें यमुनानदीके किनारे चिताकी आगमें जलकर भस्म हो गयी ।। १७ 7१९ || इति श्रीमहाभारते उद्योगपर्वणि अम्बोपाख्यानपर्वणि अम्बाहुताशनप्रवेशे सप्ताशीत्यधिकशततमो<ध्याय:

tadanantaraṁ un maharṣiyoṁ ke dekhate-dekhate us sādhvī evaṁ sundarī kanyāne us vanase bahuta-sī lakṛiyoṁ kā saṅgraha kiyā aura eka viśāla citā banākara usmeṁ āga lagā dī | mahārāja! jab āga prajvalita ho gayī, taba vah krodhase jalate hue hṛdayase bhīṣmake vadhakā saṅkalpa bolakara us agnimeṁ praveśa kara gayī | rājan! is prakāra kāśirājkī vah jyeṣṭha putrī ambā dūsare janmameṁ yamunānadīke kināre citākī āgameṁ jalakara bhasma ho gayī ||

ต่อจากนั้น ต่อหน้าเหล่ามหาฤๅษี นางกุลธิดาผู้ทรงศีลและงามผิวพรรณได้เก็บฟืนเป็นอันมากจากป่า ก่อจิตาใหญ่แล้วจุดไฟให้ลุกโชน ครั้นเพลิงโพลงขึ้น โอ้มหาราช ด้วยดวงใจที่ไหม้ด้วยโทสะ นางเปล่งวาจาตั้งสัตย์ว่า “เพื่อภีษมวธ” แล้วก้าวเข้าสู่เปลวไฟ ณ ริมฝั่งแม่น้ำยมุนา อัมพา ธิดาองค์ใหญ่แห่งกาศีก็ถูกเผาจนเป็นเถ้าธุลี
