Bhīṣma’s Dream-Linked Recollection of the Paraśurāma Combat

na caivam api śaknomi bhīṣma śastrabhūtāṁ varam | viśeṣayitum atyartham uttamāstrāṇi darśayan |

Educational Q&A

True superiority is not proved merely by exhibiting powerful weapons; genuine excellence includes mastery, steadiness, and the recognition of another’s merit. The verse highlights ethical restraint and humility even amid martial rivalry.

Rama (Parashurama) addresses Bhishma, acknowledging that despite revealing the highest weapons, he could not decisively surpass Bhishma, whom he calls the foremost among armed warriors.
