भीष्म–दुर्योधनसंवादः — शिखण्डिनं न हन्तुं कारणकथनम्

Amba-ākhyāna prologue

एष योत्स्यति संग्रामे नाशयन्‌ पूर्वसंस्थितम्‌ । परं यशो विप्रथयंस्तव सेनासु भारत,भारत! वह तुम्हारी सेनामें प्रवेश करके अपने पूर्व अपयशका नाश तथा उत्तम सुयशका विस्तार करता हुआ बड़े उत्साहसे युद्ध करेगा

eṣa yotsyati saṅgrāme nāśayan pūrvasaṃsthitam | paraṃ yaśo viprathayaṃs tava senāsu bhārata bhārata ||

โอ ภารตะ! ผู้นี้จะเข้าสู่กองทัพของท่าน แล้วทำลายความอัปยศที่เคยฝังแน่นแต่ก่อน และแผ่ขยายเกียรติยศอันสูงสุดของตน จากนั้นจะรบด้วยความฮึกเหิมยิ่ง
