न हाहं त्वद्य विक्रम्प स्थविरोडपि शिशोस्तव । युद्धश्रद्धामहं छिन्द्यां जीवितस्य च सूतज,सूतकुमार! यदि ऐसी बात न होती तो मैं वृद्ध होनेपर भी पराक्रम करके आज तुझ बालककी युद्ध-विषयक श्रद्धा और जीवनकी आशाका एक ही साथ उच्छेद कर डालता
na hāhaṃ tv adya vikramya sthaviro 'pi śiśos tava | yuddhaśraddhām ahaṃ chindyāṃ jīvitasya ca sūtaja ||
ภีษมะกล่าวว่า “หามิใช่—หากมิใช่เพราะข้อยับยั้งนี้ แม้ข้าชราแล้ว ข้าก็จักสำแดงเดชในวันนี้ โอรสแห่งสารถี และจักตัดทอนพร้อมกันทั้งความมั่นใจในศึกอันเป็นเด็ก ๆ ของเจ้า และความหวังจะมีชีวิตอยู่”
