कर्णश्न धार्तराष्ट्रार्थ वर्धयन्ति भयं मम । “यह सब सोचकर मेरे हृदयमें बड़ा दुःख हो रहा है। शान्तनुनन्दन पितामह भीष्म
karṇaś ca dhārtarāṣṭrārthaṁ vardhayanti bhayaṁ mama |
ไวศัมปายนะกล่าวว่า “เมื่อข้าพเจ้ารำพึงถึงสิ่งทั้งปวงนี้ ใจของข้าพเจ้าถูกถ่วงด้วยความโศกหนักหนา ภีษมะ โอรสแห่งศานตนุ ผู้เลิศในหมู่นักรบ; โทฺรณะ อาจารย์ผู้ยอดเยี่ยมทั้งในฐานะครูและนักรบ; และกรรณะด้วย—ทั้งหมดจะลงสู่สมรภูมิเพื่อฝ่ายทุรโยธนะ ดังนั้นการเข้าร่วมของพวกเขายิ่งเพิ่มพูนความหวาดหวั่นของข้าพเจ้า”
