Educational Q&A

Legitimate authority is expressed through disciplined conduct and proper roles: the king (Yudhiṣṭhira) takes his place on the chariot, while the protector (Bhīma) upholds the royal emblem. The symbols of power are presented as supports for dharma and public order, not mere display.

Vāyudeva issues a directive arranging the Pāṇḍavas’ royal procession or readiness: Yudhiṣṭhira is to ascend the chariot, and Bhīma is to hold the great white parasol—an honorific sign of sovereignty and protection—thereby affirming Yudhiṣṭhira’s status and the brothers’ coordinated duty.
