Educational Q&A

Do not mistake loud encouragement for genuine well-wishing. Those who incite another toward conflict may escape the cost, while the incited person must carry the resulting enmity and its karmic and political consequences.

Vaiśampāyana comments on the danger of being pushed into battle by advisers or supporters: their urging is not truly for the listener’s good, because it will cause the listener to inherit and bear the hostility of others in the coming conflict.
