Educational Q&A

The verse frames a moral inquiry into the consequences of action: even the greatest figures of the epic are ultimately evaluated by dharma and karma, and their ‘places’ in heaven symbolize the ethical accounting that follows life.

Janamejaya asks the sage to describe the posthumous outcome of the Kurukṣetra protagonists—where the Pāṇḍavas and the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra are situated in Svarga—setting up the Svargarohana episode’s resolution of lingering questions about reward, justice, and reconciliation.
