Yajña-bhāga-vyavasthā and the Pravṛtti–Nivṛtti Framework
sarvān vighnān praśamayan mahādevasya dhīmataḥ | divyaṁ varṣa-sahasraṁ hi pādenaikena tiṣṭhati ||
The verse highlights the ethical power of disciplined austerity (tapas) and inner mastery: by calming obstacles and remaining steadfast, one becomes fit to receive divine support—here associated with Mahādeva—showing that perseverance and self-control are central to dharma.
Bhīṣma describes an ascetic feat: someone (contextually an ascetic or devotee) pacifies hindrances and maintains a severe posture—standing on one foot—for a thousand divine years, with Mahādeva’s wise power or favor implied as sustaining or enabling the act.
