नारदाद्‌ विदितं महामेतद्‌ ब्रह्म सनातनम्‌ | मा शुच: कौरवेन्द्र त्वं श्रुव्वैतत्‌ परमं पदम्‌,ब्रह्माजीसे महात्मा वसिष्ठ मुनिने यह ज्ञान प्राप्त किया था। मुनिश्रेष्ठ वसिष्ठसे यह नारदजीको उपलब्ध हुआ और नारदजीसे मुझे यह सनातन ब्रह्मका उपदेश प्राप्त हुआ है। कौरवनरेश! यह ज्ञान परमपद है। इसे सुनकर अब तुम शोकका त्याग कर दो

bhīṣma uvāca | nāradād viditaṃ mahad etad brahma sanātanam | mā śucaḥ kauravendra tvaṃ śṛṇvaitat paramaṃ padam ||

ภีษมะกล่าวว่า “พรหมอันยิ่งใหญ่และเป็นนิตย์นี้ ข้าพเจ้าได้รู้แจ้งโดยนารท. โอ้กษัตริย์ผู้เป็นใหญ่แห่งกุรุ อย่าโศกเศร้าเลย; จงสดับอุปเทศนี้เถิด เพราะนี่คือปรมบท”

That knowledge of the eternal Brahman—received through an authoritative sage-lineage—is the ‘supreme state’ (paramaṃ padam) and is presented as the remedy for grief: by turning the mind toward ultimate reality, sorrow rooted in worldly loss is to be relinquished.

Bhishma, instructing the Kuru king, introduces a high spiritual doctrine and legitimizes it by citing its transmission from Narada. He urges the listener to stop grieving and to hear the teaching that leads to the highest goal.
