Educational Q&A

Bhishma frames his instruction on dharma by appealing to authoritative tradition: ethical guidance is clarified through an ancient exemplary story (itihāsa), especially in the form of a father–son dialogue.

Bhishma begins a new illustrative episode, telling Yudhishthira that learned people cite an old account—a conversation between a father and his son—and he invites Yudhishthira to listen carefully.
