ततस्तु यज्ञे सावित्री साक्षात्‌ त॑ संन्यमन्त्रयत्‌ । निमन्त्रयन्ती प्रत्युक्ता न हन्‍्यां सहवासिनम्‌,तदनन्तर उस यज्ञमें साक्षात्‌ सावित्रीने पधारकर उस ब्राह्मणको मृगकी आहुति देनेकी सलाह दी। ब्राह्मणने यह कहकर कि मैं अपने सहवासी मृगका वध नहीं कर सकता, सावित्रीकी आज्ञा माननेसे इनकार कर दी

แล้วในยัญนั้น สาวิตรีปรากฏกายเองและเกลี้ยกล่อมเขาโดยตรง. ครั้นนางเชิญและสั่ง เขาตอบว่า—“ข้าพเจ้าจะไม่ฆ่าเนื้อกวางผู้ร่วมอาศัยกับข้าพเจ้า.”
