Bali–Vāsava Dialogue on Kāla and Steadfastness

दमस्तेजो वर्धयति पवित्र दम उच्यते । विपाप्मा निर्भयो दान्त: पुरुषो विन्दते महत्‌,“दम” तेजकी वृद्धि करता है। “दम” परम पवित्र बताया गया है, मन और इन्द्रियोंका संयम करनेवाला पुरुष पाप और भयसे रहित होकर “महत्‌” पदको प्राप्त कर लेता है

damaḥ tejo vardhayati pavitraḥ dama ucyate | vipāpmā nirbhayo dāntaḥ puruṣo vindate mahat ||

ภีษมะกล่าวว่า— “ทมะเพิ่มพูนเตชะ—รัศมีและพลังภายใน; เพราะฉะนั้นทมะจึงถูกเรียกว่าเป็นความบริสุทธิ์ยิ่ง. ผู้สำรวมใจและอินทรีย์ ย่อมพ้นบาปและความหวาดกลัว แล้วบรรลุ ‘มหัต’—ภาวะอันยิ่งใหญ่ทางจิตวิญญาณ.”
