Educational Q&A

Unrestrained anger and greed, when joined with pride in strength, intoxicate the mind and drive even the powerful toward unrighteous conduct and eventual downfall; therefore self-mastery is essential to dharma.

Bhishma recalls an ancient example: many leading Dānavas/Asuras—Naraka among them—became maddened by power under the sway of anger and greed, setting up a cautionary illustration within his moral instruction.
