कृच्छात् समुद्धरन् भार न्यग्रोधं समुपागमत् । न्यषीदच्च परिश्रान्तः क्लान्तश्न क्षुधितश्न॒ सः,यह सुनकर सब ब्राह्मणसमुदाय चारों ओर भाग चले। गौतम भी सुवर्णका भारी भार लेकर बड़ी कठिनाईसे ढोता हुआ जल्दी-जल्दी चलकर बरगदके पास आया। वहाँ पहुँचते ही थककर बैठ गया। वह भूखसे पीड़ित और क्लान्त हो रहा था

เขาแบกของหนักนั้นด้วยความยากลำบากจนถึงต้นไทร ครั้นไปถึงก็ทรุดนั่งลง—อ่อนเพลียยิ่งนัก เหนื่อยล้า และถูกความหิวบีบคั้น
