Dama-pradhāna-dharma (Self-restraint as the Root of Dharma) — Śānti-parva 154

गृहीत्वा ये च गच्छन्ति ये न यान्ति च तान्‌ मृतान्‌ । तेडप्यायुष: प्रमाणेन स्वेन गच्छन्ति जन्तव:,“जो लोग अपने मृतक सम्बन्धियोंको लेकर श्मशानमें जाते हैं, और जो नहीं जाते हैं, वे सभी जीव-जन्तु अपनी आयु पूरी होनेपर इस संसारसे चल बसते हैं

gṛhītvā ye ca gacchanti ye na yānti ca tān mṛtān | te 'pi āyuṣaḥ pramāṇena svena gacchanti jantavaḥ ||

ภีษมะกล่าวว่า— “ผู้ที่อุ้มศพญาติไปยังป่าช้า และผู้ที่มิได้ไปก็ตาม—สรรพสัตว์ทั้งปวงย่อมจากโลกนี้ไปเมื่ออายุขัยของตนถึงกำหนด”
