त॑ ज्ञात्वा पतितं कूपे भ्रातरावेकतद्वितौ । वृकत्रासाच्च लोभाच्च समुत्सृज्य प्रजग्मतु:,अपने भाईको कुएँमें गिरा हुआ जानकर भी दोनों भाई एकत और द्वित भेड़ियेके भय और लोभसे उन्हें वहीं छोड़कर चल दिये
taṁ jñātvā patitaṁ kūpe bhrātarāv ekatadvitau | vṛkatrāsāc ca lobhāc ca samutsṛjya prajagmatuḥ ||
ไวศัมปายนะกล่าวว่า—ครั้นรู้ว่าพี่น้องของตนตกลงไปในบ่อแล้ว เอกรตะและทวิรตะ สองพี่น้องนั้น ด้วยความหวาดกลัวหมาป่าและด้วยความโลภ จึงทอดทิ้งเขาไว้แล้วจากไป
