शल्यपर्व — चतुर्विंशोऽध्यायः | Śalya Parva, Chapter 24: Disruption of Kaurava Formations and the Elephant Encirclement
“मधुकुलभूषण! भीष्मजीने जो सच्ची और हितकर बात बतायी थी, उसे भी उस बुद्धिहीन दुर्योधनने नहीं माना ।।
sañjaya uvāca | madhukula-bhūṣaṇa! bhīṣmeṇa yā satyā hitakarī ca vāk proktā, tām api sa buddhihīno duryodhanaḥ nābhyagṛhṇāt || tasmiṃs tu tumule bhīṣme pracyute dharaṇītale | na jāne kāraṇaṃ kiṃ tu yena yuddham avartata ||
สัญชัยกล่าวว่า “โอ้ ผู้เป็นเครื่องประดับแห่งวงศ์มธุ! แม้ถ้อยคำที่จริงและเป็นประโยชน์ซึ่งภีษมะกล่าวไว้ ทุรโยธนะผู้ไร้ปัญญาก็มิยอมรับ และเมื่อท่ามกลางศึกอันอื้ออึงน่าสะพรึง ภีษมะล้มลงสู่พื้นพิภพแล้ว ข้าก็มิอาจรู้ได้ว่าเหตุใดสงครามจึงยังดำเนินต่อไป”
