Adhyāya 21 — Duryodhanasya bāṇavarṣaḥ
Duryodhana’s Arrow-Storm and the Dust-Obscured Engagements
वहाँ कृतवर्माका शत्रुओंके साथ होनेवाला युद्ध अत्यन्त आश्चर्यजनक प्रतीत होता था; क्योंकि उसने अकेले ही दुर्जय पाण्डव-सेनाकी प्रगति रोक दी थी ।।
sañjaya uvāca | teṣām anyonya-suhṛdāṃ kṛte karmaṇi duṣkare | siṃhanādaḥ prahṛṣṭānāṃ divi spṛk sumahān abhūt ||
สัญชัยกล่าวว่า—เมื่อกฤตวรมันกระทำวีรกรรมอันยากยิ่งนั้นเพื่อเหล่ากุรุผู้ปรารถนาดีต่อกัน เหล่านักรบผู้ปลาบปลื้มก็เปล่ง “สิงหนาท” อันเกรียงไกร ดังก้องประหนึ่งแตะต้องสวรรค์ ในธรรมแห่งสงครามอันเข้มงวด การยืนหยัดเพียงลำพังของเขา—สกัดความคืบหน้าของกองทัพปาณฑพซึ่งยากจะต้านทาน—กลายเป็นศูนย์รวมแห่งสหายธรรมและปณิธานนักรบ ทว่าในขณะเดียวกันก็ยิ่งเร่งความรุนแรงของวันนั้นให้ทวีขึ้น।
