Educational Q&A

The verse frames a moral-political moment: a ruler shaken by the consequences of adharma seeks counsel from Vidura, signaling that ethical governance depends on listening to dharma-aligned advice, especially after wrongdoing has destabilized the kingdom.

After the events connected with the dice-game and its aftermath, Vidura goes to Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s palace. Dhṛtarāṣṭra, greatly disturbed, questions Vidura—setting up a counsel scene that continues the ethical and political tension of the Kuru court.
