Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how public honor and collective acclaim can intensify rivalry: Duryodhana interprets Yudhiṣṭhira’s flourishing royal sacrifice as a world-gathering spectacle, revealing the ethical danger of envy when confronted with another’s success.

During Yudhiṣṭhira’s grand sacrificial proceedings, people from many lands and communities arrive in great numbers. Duryodhana remarks that the sacrificial pavilion looks as though the whole world has assembled there, a reaction that foreshadows his growing resentment.
