Duryodhana’s Description of Tribute at the Rājasūya
vāsāṃsi ca śubhāny asmai pradadū rājaśāsanāt | tathāgataṃ tu taṃ dṛṣṭvā bhīmaseno mahābalaḥ |
The verse highlights how royal authority can confer outward honor (fine garments) while observers may still respond from personal judgment or moral emotion—suggesting a contrast between external protocol and internal ethical perception.
In the royal assembly context, someone is formally honored with fine clothing by the king’s order; immediately after, the narration turns to Bhīma noticing the person’s arrival and becoming emotionally engaged, setting up the next action or confrontation.
