Educational Q&A

As a chapter-colophon, the verse itself teaches by framing: it signals that the preceding dialogue between Karna and Shalya is a self-contained unit of instruction. The ethical emphasis lies in how counsel and speech—whether supportive or cutting—shape a warrior’s resolve and expose the tensions between pride, duty, and right conduct in war.

Sanjaya concludes the account by announcing that the forty-second chapter of the Karna Parva has ended, and that its subject was the dialogue between Karna and Shalya. It functions as an editorial closure rather than a new event within the battlefield story.
