धृतराष्ट्रने पूछा--संजय! अपने पिताके वधको सहन न कर सकनेवाला अत्यन्त शोकसंतप्त द्रोणपुत्र अश्वत्थामाके साथ जब सारी सेनाएँ युद्धसस््थलमें लौट आयीं, तब कौरवोंको आते देख पाण्डवदलमें धृष्टद्युम्नकी रक्षाके लिये क्या विचार हुआ, वह मुझे बताओ ।।

prāg eva vidrutān dṛṣṭvā dhārtarāṣṭrān yudhiṣṭhiraḥ |
punaś ca tumulaṃ śabdaṃ śrutvā arjunam athābravīt ||
สัญชัยกล่าวว่า “ข้าแต่พระราชา ยุธิษฐิระได้เห็นกองทัพของพระโอรสของพระองค์แตกหนีไปก่อนแล้ว ครั้นได้ยินอีกครั้งซึ่งเสียงคำรามอันน่าสะพรึงและอื้ออึง เขาจึงหันไปตรัสกับอรชุน”
