The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma expressed as alertness, leadership, and protection of a valued symbol/asset in battle. Arjuna’s swift decision shows disciplined resolve: safeguarding what is entrusted (or strategically crucial) is itself an ethical duty within the warrior code.
Sañjaya reports that Arjuna quickly advances to the front, positioning himself before the conch, intending to prevent Bhīṣma from seizing or disabling it. With this movement and intent, the fighting intensifies and the great battle begins in earnest.
