As a colophon-style closing, the verse does not teach through direct instruction; instead it reinforces the epic’s ethical framing: war episodes are recorded as part of a larger dharmic history, where actions in battle carry moral weight and lead toward decisive outcomes (here, within the broader movement toward Bhīṣma’s fall).
This is an end-of-chapter marker stating that the chapter describing the war between Arjuna and Duḥśāsana has finished, situating it within Bhīṣma Parva and the Bhīṣma-vadha sub-section, and signaling a transition to the next unit of narration.
