Arjuna and Bhima’s pressure; escalation toward Bhishma
भीष्मो5पि समरे जित्वा पाण्डवान् सहसूंजयान् । पूज्यमानस्तव सुतैर्वन्द्यमानश्च भारत
bhīṣmo 'pi samare jitvā pāṇḍavān sahasūñjayān | pūjyamānas tava sutair vandyamānaś ca bhārata ||
โอ ภารตะ! แม้ภีษมะ ครั้นมีชัยเหนือปาณฑพพร้อมทั้งศฤญชัยในสมรภูมิแล้ว ก็ได้รับการบูชาจากโอรสของท่าน และถูกถวายความเคารพซ้ำแล้วซ้ำเล่า
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how victory in war brings immediate social validation—honor and salutations—yet it implicitly contrasts outward acclaim with the deeper moral weight of a fratricidal conflict, reminding readers that praise does not by itself resolve questions of dharma.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Bhīṣma has gained the upper hand in battle against the Pāṇḍavas and their Sṛñjaya allies, and that the Kaurava princes (Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s sons) are honoring and bowing to Bhīṣma for his success.
