Nakula’s Declaration and the Uñchavṛtti Brāhmaṇa’s Superior Merit (Āśvamedhika Parva, Adhyāya 92)

dhyeyātmanā hariṣyāmi yajñān etān yatavrataḥ | yadi indraḥ dvādaśa-varṣāntakaṁ varṣāṁ na kariṣyati, tato ’haṁ vrata-niyamān pālayan dhyānena dhyeya-rūpeṇa sthitaḥ san etān yajñān anuṣṭhāsyāmi ||

Educational Q&A

Steadfastness in dharma: one should uphold vowed duty and inner discipline even when external supports (like rain granted by Indra) fail; meditative composure and ethical resolve sustain righteous action.

The speaker declares a firm intention to complete certain sacrifices. Even if Indra withholds rain for twelve years—a severe obstacle to ritual and social welfare—he will continue the rites by maintaining vows and relying on meditative steadiness.
