Marutta Seeks Saṃvarta’s Priestly Support; Conditions, Truth-Discipline, and Rival Powers

स त्वं बृहस्पतिं गच्छ तमनुज्ञाप्य चाव्रज । ततो<हं याजयिष्ये त्वां यदि यष्टमिहेच्छसि,“अतः तुम बृहस्पतिके पास जाओ और उनकी आज्ञा लेकर आओ। उस दशामें यदि तुम यज्ञ कराना चाहो तो मैं यज्ञ करा दूँगा”

sa tvaṃ bṛhaspatiṃ gaccha tam anu jñāpya cāvraja | tato 'haṃ yājayiṣye tvāṃ yadi yaṣṭum ihecchasi ||

ฉะนั้นเจ้าจงไปหาพฤหัสบดี ขออนุญาตจากท่านแล้วกลับมาที่นี่ จากนั้นหากในสภาพเช่นนี้เจ้ายังประสงค์จะประกอบยัญ ข้าจะเป็นผู้ประกอบพิธีให้เจ้า

Educational Q&A

Even a righteous act like a yajña should be undertaken with proper authorization and guidance from recognized authorities. Ethical legitimacy in ritual depends not only on intention but also on correct procedure and sanctioned counsel.

Vyāsa directs the addressee to approach Bṛhaspati, obtain his consent, and then return. Only after that approval does Vyāsa agree to serve as officiating priest and conduct the intended sacrifice.
